Valentina’s First Trip to Mexico

So we finally took our trip to my parent's hometown in Durango, Mx. It was a quick trip, but It was worth it. Taking a one-year-old to Mexico is not an easy task, but we could handle it.

We took off to Durango by Cross Border Express (CBX) in San Diego into Tijuana airport. It's a speedy process, but unfortunately, since I was traveling with a check-in car seat, we could not take the quicker way, and we had to enter into Tijuana airport and heck in there! Doing that with a one-year-old is not an easy task. This meant double all the security checks and trying to check in the bags. It's horrible, and CBX needs to do better with checking Car seats at any location instead of making things harder.

Our flight was at 2 am, and we got to the airport a little earlier because that's one thing I have, I get high anxiety when traveling, and I have to get to places way in advance. So luckily, we had family friends at the airport waiting for us, and we all had a great time eating at VIPS and talking while we waited for our flight.

Let me tell you that my baby was wide awake this whole time! Luckily, I had my mom and friends that helped me tremendously during this time. Baby V was laughing and wanting to talk to everyone while we were at the terminal. She was overly stimulated, and I was so afraid that she would not sleep at all. But, once we got onto the airplane, I gave her the bottle, and she fell asleep and woke up in Durango!

My parent's hometown is 2 hours away from the airport in Durango, Mx. It was a smooth ride until my baby threw up so much. Then, we had to get off and change her in the car. There are many curvy roads on our way to our destination, and my poor baby had enough. We stopped in Santiago Papasquiaro to eat with my sister.

Then after a nice lunch, we headed out to Presidios, Durango! My parent's hometown and my favorite little place ever. We had to get ready for the Baptism. We had my daughter and my niece's Baptism in Corrales, DGO. Corrales is the town where my brother-in-law is from. On our first day, we also went to my Father-in-law's hometown of Los Pinos and then for a fun time in Carreras, DGO, for friends gettogether. The first day was very tiring!

2nd day we were getting ready for the final things for the Baptism. Then finally, on the 3rd day, it was the Baptism. Our baby girls are finally baptized. It was a lovely party with our family and friends from each of the towns we are from. When you host a party in Mexico, you have to invite everyone from the town, so that is why we had quite a few people.

The rest of the time in Durango was very lovely but not relaxing. Going from one town to another was a bit draining, especially when a one-year-old wants to crawl and touch everything. Just thinking about it makes me tired.

Overall, I was able to see the excitement of my daughter doing new things. She was so happy to see everything, and she wanted to talk to everyone. She got to try a Paleta for the first time. She also got to have a little dip in the Aguas termales. She played in the dirt and crawled until she was tired. I got to take pictures of her in the places that I love. I can't wait to come back again, but this time for a longer and more relaxing time.

I was so nervous about this trip but I had tremendous help from Ana from Monos Viajeros. She helped me plan my trip and look at the pros and cons of traveling. Of course, the list of good things won! I became calm about traveling with a one-year-old all thanks to my new friend, Ana!
